Home Design Cost - Home Design Forum

I am in the process of having a home designed from a designer. I want to know what costs are involved including in design costs as well as engineering costs. I have been quoted from a designer $6500 which would include most of the engineering work and that to have a final engineering stamp of approval would cost $1500. Is this high or am I getting a good deal.
