Posted by Kith Raj on May 02, 2002 at 10:26:16:I'm extending my house. With my new roof the rafters should be supported with Jack and Purlin. According to the code JACK should be 45 degrees with horizontal. But in my case There is no wall to spport this Jacks to meet this requirment. I know I cant support Jcak with celing joists. Can I place a beam accross walls to support these Jacks? If so how big it should be? or is there ann other alternative? If I use bigger rafters I can't match the roof finish lines. The existing rafters are 2x4. Please help me. Thank you very much.
